Nugape obtains IFS Food and consolidates its position as global pet food manufacturer

  • News

  • This is the most demanding certification of quality and safety in the manufacture of food, both for pets and for human consumption.
  • From its factory in Vilanova de Arousa (Galicia), it exports its products to more than 40 countries.

Nugape Pet Food, pet food manufacturer, has obtained the prestigious IFS Food certification https://www.ifs-certification.com/es/food-standard , which consolidates the Galician manufacturer as one of the most important companies in Spain in its sector, guaranteeing that its quality and safety protocols are as demanding as those applied to products for human consumption.

Nugape, Galicia’s only manufacturer of dry pet food, has its factory in Vilanova de Arousa (Galicia), from where it exports its products to more than 40 countries. With more than 50 employees and a commitment to local and quality raw materials, its brands include Cebican, Sandegal, Danna and Dousti, with a strong presence in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Nugape already has some of the main safety certifications, such as IFS Global Market, or continuous quality analysis technologies such as NIR, but IFS Food is a very important milestone in its history, placing it among the selected group of pet food manufacturers worldwide that demonstrate safety, quality and traceability protocols equivalent to those of human food.

To obtain the IFS Food seal, independent auditors from AENOR – the prestigious Spanish certification firm and leader in confidence building – have supervised for months the company’s governance and commitment processes, quality and safety, resource management, operational processes and measurement and analysis of all its products. IFS is an independent organization and IFS Food is globally recognized for ensuring excellence in quality and safety in food manufacturing. It ensures that the manufacturer produces safe, authentic, quality food that meets all legal requirements and the specifications shown to the customer. IFS Food also controls all traceability in manufacturing and in the market, and its audits are carried out by highly qualified auditors specialized in food safety.

Obtaining IFS Food also comes at a time of strong expansion for the company, with the start-up of a new packaging line that will enable it to reach a production of up to 1,200 bags/hour, and which, together with other improvements, will enable it to reach an annual production of 120,000 tons in the near future. Nugape is also working on various projects to improve the company’s environmental sustainability, such as the installation of heat pumps to reduce the use of gas and CO2 emissions, and the installation of 5,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels.
